Support Groups

Finding connection with others

A cancer support group is a safe space where two or more people affected by cancer come together regularly—face-to-face, online, or over the phone – to share experiences, feelings, and support. Being part of a group of people who are “in the same boat” can help reduce the psychological distress often associated with a cancer diagnosis.

Support groups provide opportunities to:

    • Talk openly about your experiences and emotions, including challenges like discussing cancer with family or children.
    • Connect with others through empathy, laughter, tears, and shared understanding.
    • Learn about cancer-related topics such as treatments, side effects, exercise, nutrition, relationships, and life after cancer.
    • Gain practical strategies and peer advice for navigating everyday life during and after treatment.

Attending a support group can help you feel less alone, more informed, and more empowered, while offering emotional relief, connection, and acceptance throughout your cancer journey.

This group provides support for men diagnosed with prostate cancer. It offers a safe, confidential space to share experiences, connect with others facing similar challenges, and learn from one another. The group also aims to raise awareness of prostate cancer and its impact on men and their families.

The FNQ Prostate Cancer Support Group meets on the second Wednesday of the month at the COUCH Cancer Hub NQ at 10.30am.
