Massage key to effective management
Lymphoedema is a long-term condition that may develop after cancer treatment. While it cannot be cured, it can be effectively managed with the right care. Treatment focuses on preventing progression, reducing swelling, and maintaining improvements over time. It also helps ease discomfort, lower infection risk, and improve mobility, function, and quality of life.
Research shows secondary lymphoedema can worsen without treatment. Therefore, early intervention is strongly recommended to achieve the best outcomes.
Therapists deliver specialised treatment
Therapists provide targeted lymphoedema massage using advanced techniques designed for this condition. This specialised therapy can:
• Reduce swelling and fluid build-up
• Prevent complications
• Relieve discomfort
• Improve mobility and overall quality of life
At COUCH Cancer Hub NQ, a qualified lymphoedema practitioner delivers every session. All therapists are accredited by the Australasian Lymphology Association (ALA), ensuring professional, evidence-based care.
How is it different from general lymphatic massage?
General lymphatic massage is gentle and relaxing, supporting overall lymphatic health and wellbeing. In contrast, lymphoedema massage is specifically designed for people living with lymphoedema. Its targeted approach can significantly improve symptom management and recovery.
By combining early intervention, personalised treatment, and professional support, lymphoedema massage helps clients regain comfort, confidence, and function.
