Counselling and Psychology Support

For peace of mind

Reaching out for help can be the hardest thing but it’s an important first step when it comes to mental health.

Someone to talk to during challenging times

At COUCH Cancer Hub NQ, we are recruiting counsellors and psychologists to join our team. While we build this service in-house, we refer clients to Cancer Council Queensland for counselling and psychological support.

Facing a cancer diagnosis, undergoing treatment, living as a survivor, or supporting a loved one can feel overwhelming. Fortunately, Cancer Council Queensland offers cancer-specific counselling to help you navigate these challenges. Their experienced team is trained to address the emotional and psychological impacts of cancer.

Services Offered

Cancer Council Queensland provides:

  • Up to 10 sessions with a psychologist using a GP Mental Health Care Plan

  • Up to four sessions with a nurse counsellor

  • Appointments via telephone, video, and, in some locations, in-person sessions

Please note that couples counselling, ongoing counselling, and family counselling are not offered.

How to Access Counselling and Psychology Support

To use the Cancer Council’s services, you need:

  • A GP Mental Health Care Plan

  • A referral letter from your GP addressed to Cancer Council Queensland

If you do not have these, or cannot obtain them through your GP, you can book an appointment with our COUCH GP. Our GP can assist you in preparing the necessary documents.

Once you have both documents:

1. Email your Mental Health Care Plan and referral letter to: ccsreferral@cancerqld.org.au

2. Call Cancer Council Queensland’s Information and Support Line on 13 11 20 to complete the referral process
