Massage key to effective management
Lymphoedema is a long-term condition that can develop after cancer treatment. While it cannot be cured, it can be effectively managed with the right care. The goals of treatment are to prevent the condition from progressing, reduce swelling, and maintain improvement over time. Treatment also aims to ease associated symptoms, lower the risk of infection, and improve mobility, function, and overall quality of life.
Research shows that without treatment, secondary lymphoedema may worsen, which is why early intervention is strongly recommended.
Therapists deliver specialised treatment
Lymphoedema massage is a specialised treatment delivered by therapists with advanced training in lymphoedema management. This therapy can:
-
- Reduce swelling and fluid build-up
- Prevent complications
- Relieve discomfort
- Improve mobility and quality of life
At the cancer hub, we are proud to offer this essential service with a qualified lymphoedema practitioner accredited by the Australasian Lymphology Association (ALA).
How is it different from general lymphatic massage?
While general lymphatic massage is a gentle, relaxing treatment that supports the body’s overall lymphatic health and wellbeing, lymphoedema massage is a targeted therapy specifically for people living with lymphoedema. This specialised approach can make a real difference in managing symptoms and supporting recovery.
