Exercise Physiology

Customised programs to build quality of life

At COUCH Cancer Hub NQ, our accredited exercise physiologists design safe, personalised exercise programs for people living with cancer. Whether before, during, or after treatment, it’s important to engage in exercise.

Research shows that tailored exercise can also ease treatment side effects, maintain bone density, muscle mass and mobility, improve mental health and overall quality of life.

Our clients benefit from individual consults and group classes that:

    • Reduce fatigue and boost energy
    • Support faster recovery from treatment impacts
    • Help you return to daily activities sooner
    • Promote mental wellbeing and social connection
    • Improve overall quality of life
What our exercise physiologists do

Our exercise physiologists specialise in safe, effective exercise for people with complex health conditions, including cancer. They:

    • Understand cancer symptoms, treatment side effects and their impact on exercise
    • Prescribe appropriate exercises, intensity and volume for each stage of treatment
    • Maximise safety and benefits even during challenging treatments
    • Provide guidance on cancer-specific exercise and chronic disease management
    • Set realistic goals and help overcome barriers to physical activity

We focus on helping you feel confident and supported, finding the right balance between your treatment, other health conditions and lifestyle needs.

Before joining our gym or some group classes, you’ll need to complete an Exercise Physiology (EP) assessment. This is a great opportunity to get to know your exercise physiologist and develop a personalised exercise program designed just for you — whether you prefer to work out in the hub gym, at home, or in the pool.

The power of exercise in cancer care

“Emerging evidence highlights that regular exercise before, during and/or following cancer treatment decreases the severity of other adverse side effects and is associated with reduced risk of developing new cancers and comorbid conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and osteoporosis.”
