Expert cancer care, when you need it
At COUCH Cancer Hub NQ, our cancer care nurses are often the first point of contact for new clients. Their role is to listen, guide, and connect you with the right support at the right time.
When you first meet with a cancer care nurse, the focus is on understanding your story — how you arrived here, what you know about your diagnosis, and what support you feel you may need? Many people come to us unsure of what services are available or even what to ask for, and that’s completely normal. By sharing your journey so far, the nurse can identify gaps in your care, immediate concerns, or areas where extra support may be helpful.
From there, your nurse will provide tailored recommendations, which may include activities and services offered at COUCH or referrals to external providers if more urgent needs arise (such as mental health or specialised medical support). Where appropriate, your nurse will facilitate these referrals directly, always with your consent.
Follow-up appointments are scheduled to ensure you feel supported as your needs change. Your cancer care nurse works with you to develop a personalised wellness plan that may be shared with your GP and treating team, ensuring coordinated and holistic care.
Our cancer care nurses also support carers and loved ones, offering education, guidance, and reassurance to help them understand the cancer journey and feel more confident in providing care at home.
Whether you are newly diagnosed, in treatment, navigating recovery, or living with long-term effects, your cancer care nurse will walk alongside you. Their role is to empower you, provide clarity, and ensure you always know where to turn for help.
